Our harp teacher Victoria (Paraguayan) and our English teacher Danielle (British) took part in the 11th Festival of Renaissance and American Baroque Music, 21 April to 1 May, in the former Jesuit Missions of Chiquitos, Bolivia, as we pre-announced in March. Margaret also went to Chiquitos, where she saw and heard them. Here are some concert shots in the Jesuit church of San Ignacio de Velasco. Danielle sang soprano, and also played the recorder and the quijada  (donkey’s jawbone!), as in this picture. The group Paraguay Barroco was received with enthusiasm at all their four concerts – three in old Jesuit churches and one in Santa Cruz. The Festival featured 26 international groups and 28 Bolivian ones.

Now Danielle has been asked to stay in Paraguay a little longer to take part in a concert tour in August. Meanwhile, she has been teaching recorder in Santa María and giving a class in musical rhythm to food-technology students of the Institute, in addition to her five classes of English each day.
