This year, for the first time, we conducted our scholarship exam outside of Santa María. We were looking for a way to expand our work and have teamed up with another education charity, Fe y Alegría, which has secondary schools across the country. Our scholarship exam was sat by the best students in four of their schools, and we are delighted to offer university students to five of them.
From left to right they are Monse, Miguel, Pedro, María José and Adolfo. Four of them are from the North of Paraguay, the most dangerous part of the country which receives very little help from the government or NGOs. The only one who isn’t from the North is María José who grew up in La Chacarita, a shanty town in Asunción. All five of them are impressive, intelligent, driven young people and we are thrilled to be able to help them through university.
