French Ambassador visits Santa Maria

The French Ambassador to Paraguay, Emmanuel Cocher, visited Santa Maria this week.

The main purpose of his visit was to celebrate the house of Aimé Bonpland, a French explorer and botanist who lived for a period of time in Santa Maria in the 1820s, being recognised as a National Heritage site.

However, he was also keen to visit us, as he had already heard of SMEF’s work. As well as showing him round the Institute we were glad that he was able to hear our harp students play at the event at Bonpland’s house; their first opportunity to play publically since the pandemic began.
