First day back at the Institute

This month marked the start of the new academic year at the Food Technology Institute. As has been the case for the past few years, we had a big intake, with 65 students signing up for the first year. We were glad to be able to accept them all, as last year Covid rules meant we had to limit numbers. Most of our students are from Santa Maria and its surrounding villages, though we have an increasing number of students from slightly further afield too. They have heard of free tertiary education being offered and jumped at the chance, as this is unheard of in their own towns. As ever, most of our students are from low income families and wouldn’t be able to study elsewhere. We also offer accommodation in Santa Maria for those who need it.
