February 2014: harpists, Humaita, and hot air balloons

harps-Humaita-12All our string and harp students have gone on a 3 day seminar in another town, and the harpists have been playing in front of the famous war ruins of Humaita, and were filmed by the most important Brazilian television channel for a documentary, and are very excited about it.  And they went up in a hot air balloon and took pictures, which is nothing to do with music but all adds to the excitement. “It was incredible” they said.

The harp is a traditional Paraguayan instrument with a wealth of music old and new composed for it. Harp classes started in Santa María in 2010. Taught by Victoria, there are now over 10 students at varying levels. For a taste of a Paraguayan dance, go to the website of the Santa Maria Hotel site at www.santamariahotel.org
