Victoria Oviedo, our harp teacher, has completed her Law degree at the Universidad Nacional de Pilar in San Ignacio, and is to be awarded the honour of mejor egresado (top leaver) in the degree ceremony on Friday. Considering that Law is one of the most difficult subjects, with the longest reading matter, and the most years of study, and that the Universidad Nacional is the top university, and that at the same time she has been developing her career as a harpist, including several foreign concert tours, not to mention devoting every Sunday to teaching our students in Santa Maria – this can only show how utterly brilliant this unassuming young woman is, and how very lucky we are to have her as our teacher. On Friday the harp group will go down in force to cheer her achievement. Victoria says she has no plans to leave the area, and will continue teaching here in her new phase of life as qualified Abogada.
One of her top harp students, Sandra Romero, who is also one of our excellent English students, was one of three mejor egresados from our colegio (secondary school) in Santa María, and was selected to give the speech on behalf of the students in the closing ceremony last Friday. She also played two pieces on her harp in the ceremony. Unfortunately she will be leaving our harp group in January, as she is going to study Medicine in another city, and the entrance course is so intensive and difficult she will have time for nothing else.
