After SMEF was crowned with glory in the degree ceremony of the Universidad Catolica in San Ignacio, when a SMEF student was mejor egresado (top leaver), we have done it again at the Escuela Agricola. Carlos, a student of Santa María whom we have helped on a couple of occasions when the family could not cover his costs, was awarded the honour of mejor egresado in the closing ceremony of 11 December.
You see him here banderado with the sash in Paraguay’s national colours that adorns the top student, and with his proud and delighted mother Graciela. In fact he received 5 (the top mark) for every single subject in every one of the three years that he has attended this agricultural college in San Juan. He is now qualified as a technician in agriculture, as is also Jose Miguel, another SMEF student from Santa María who began the course with Carlos three years ago.
Over 70 students began the course, and 40 of them have now qualified, including 10 girls.
