The Starters exam was set for 20 September, and because we had got together a dozen candidates, the Anglo sent an examiner down to us. Nine children sat Starters, while three children sat the next exam up, Movers.
Meanwhile, Beth Doherty (pictured) arrived from Australia, where she was press officer to the Bishops’ Conference before she took time off to come to Latin America. She is creative in music (piano, violin, singing and composing), in photography and in websites and blogs, as well as in teaching English.
What’s more, another new teacher began in September – Cristina Vera Díaz, a professional Paraguayan soprano. The Jesuits held that the Guaraní have a natural musical talent and love to learn classical musical technique. Cristina has high standards, and has been coming to Santa María every Sunday to run classes.
